Toxins, Wellness

Are You Toxic?

Published on February 26, 2015 by Dr. Myra Reed

Do you feel tired, sluggish, achy, and overweight? Trying to get extra weight off but can’t lose it? Maybe you can’t sleep, or have headaches, rashes, allergies, or joint aches, or bowel problems like reflux, bloating, constipation or IBS?  All of this can be due to too many toxins in your body. Wouldn’t it be nice to get rid of or clean out these toxins and feel better — as well as be healthier?

We live in a toxic environment. Our food, water and environment is full of toxins. Since the 70’s, chemists have genetically altered our foods like grains, meats, and dairy. They’ve added chemicals, hormones, preservatives, and additives to almost everything we ingest, put on our bodies, or breath in. Our cooking oils were chemically altered and our grains genetically altered in order to increase shelf life and production. Over time, the nutrient value of foods has declined, with more unnatural additives or sugar — causing inflammation in our bodies. Add the prevalence of eating hydrogenated fast foods to leading busy, stressful lives, and you end up with an unhealthy population experiencing many more medical and weight problems than ever.

The good news? There are ways to circumvent or turn this around. One of which is to detox your body and learn to live a healthier, more natural life.

What is a detox?

A detox is a natural process of metabolically removing unwanted compounds that are unhealthy from your body. You don’t have to be scared. It is not as bad as you would think. Some people think it is a fasting, juicing or starvation diet, but it’s not! It’s about learning to eat healthier, more organic and more nutritious while cleansing out your body from your liver through to your skin. Depending on your toxic level score, the cleanse can be for only 10 or 28 days, and it’s the start to a better life and diet!  Wouldn’t you want to feel and look better? Isn’t that what we all want?

But be careful, not all detox programs are the same. Frankly, some of the advertised detox plans can be harmful to your health! Especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions-diabetes, low blood pressure, adrenal or thyroid issues, etc. You should consult your healthcare provider before initiating one. Some of the “trendy” fasting juicing plans can cause muscle wasting or increased fatigue. Our office only uses products with over 20 years of worldwide clinical use, a safe and effective track record and satisfied customers. The plan we recommend to our patients is a formulated nutritional supplementation and food program with low allergy potential and one that provides proper education, support, preparation, and recipes.

Our plan focuses on eating a clean organic diet – full of fiber, dark leafy greens and vegetables and a variety of quality protein and good carbs that the body needs. And includes specific necessary micronutrients — vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients — that target detox support, plus an enhanced medical grade nutritional powder and herbs geared toward liver detox.

As part of our program, increasing water intake, reducing stress, getting moderate exercise, and maintaining a healthy gut (more to come on that topic later) are all integral to the detoxification process.

Most people should do a thorough detox about every three months or so. Some of the best times to detox again are after Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, or any other big celebration that involves lots of heavy eating or drinking.  Really anytime you feel sluggish, tired, can’t lose weight or feel “toxic”.
